ADEA has an Executive Committee and members of the Executive lead seven areas of activity. The Executive Committee meets at least once each month.

The Members meet once a month to discuss events and to vote on important decisions. These meetings are also an opportunity for the members to share information, offer help or seek advice about aspects of adjusting to life in Buenos Aires and to strengthen friendships in a social setting.

The main work of ADEA is to raise funds through events held during the year and to allocate the funds to carefully screened local organizations working directly with those in need.

Charity Committee

This committee meets every month in the ADEA office. It has the task of distributing the funds we raise at our major charity events each year. The committee of Asistencia Social receives requests for donations from many organizations in Argentina. The committee has developed a clear set of criteria or guidelines which they use to evaluate each request. For instance, money cannot be given to help with food or other consumable items. Nor can it be used for building or construction projects.

Each year the committee of Asistencia Social decides on a priority group to receive our support. In 2006 our target group is ‘Children at Risk’.

Once a request is evaluated as meeting the criteria, a form is sent out to gather as much information as possible and afterwards a group from the committee goes out to visit the project and to meet the people directly involved.

If the committee is satisfied that the project is viable and well-run and that the money requested will serve a very useful purpose, the donation is approved at the subsequent committee meeting.

In December ADEA hosts a brunch at the Hotel Sheraton for all the groups who have received funds that year. This popular event allows the volunteers of many projects for the needy people in the community to get together and to share experiences.

Fundraising

To raise the funds needed for our program of community solidarity (Asistencia Social) we seek sponsors from international and Argentine businesses. We host two major events each year: the Dinner Dance (Cena Gala) and the International Tea and Fashion Show (Té Desfile ). In addition, we publish a magazine with a changing theme each year. We seek support for the magazine through sale of advertising space. (More details under ‘Benefit Activities’).
